The accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting function for several projects from entitlement through design, construction and property management.
The position will also be responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow for assigned projects. Strong experience with property management and development management accounting desired. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented team player with the ability to manage multiple tasks, problem-solving, and organizational skills. This position reports to the Director of Accounting.
Responsibilities:
Perform daily accounting functions including management of payables, receivables, cash balances, detailed journal entries, expense accruals, and chart of account maintenance.
Primary contact for the internal development team and external vendor regarding accounting-related questions.
Manage the month-end close process, track project budgets, and account reconciliations.
Prepare and analyze monthly financial reporting packages and associated detail, such as project schedule, R&O, budget vs actual cost, and variance analysis.
Assist with overhead spending for coding accuracy including follow-up, reconciling, and resolving discrepancies.
Provide advice and guidance in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and cash flow analysis.
Record and document transactions in accordance with GAAP, Tax, or FMV basis, as appropriate.
Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, and applicable laws for all assigned entities.
Skills:
Software Proficiency - Sage Intacct, Buildium, Procore, Google Sheets / Excel, Asana as a tool to manage the financial calendar, and assign tasks to team members.
Variance Analysis report - Produce Variance report for development, design, construction and operating projects, and company divisions.
Financial Reporting - Able to generate accurate financial statements and ensure that everything is being done correctly.
Time Management - Ability to ensure timely execution of key activities such as: account payable and account receivable, tax payment, reporting.
Communication with team - Ability to effectively communicate with the team to identify potential issues and opportunities.
Legal - Ability to understand legal documents such as loan notes, joint venture agreements and extract key financial information.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management preferred.
5+ year’s related experience in accounting, knowledge of GAAP as it applies to real estate development.
Strong quantitative and analytical skills
Experience working with loan and joint venture agreements preferred.
Solid computer skills, MS Office, and Google Suite.
